Training on Biosafety, Chemical Safety, and Equipment/Laboratory Maintenance

On May 29, 2025, the Department of Pathobiology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, organized a training on biosafety, chemical safety, and the proper use and maintenance of shared laboratory equipment and facilities. The event aimed to equip faculty members, staff, students, and relevant personnel with essential knowledge, awareness, and skills to ensure safe laboratory practices.

The objectives of the training were to:
1. Provide participants with principles and best practices for biosafety and chemical safety to protect personnel, related individuals, the community, and the environment;
2. Promote awareness of safe practices when working with pathogens, animal toxins, and hazardous chemicals;
3. Ensure that participants understand and comply with the proper procedures for using and maintaining departmental equipment and shared laboratories in accordance with institutional regulations.

The training covered the following key topics:
- Biosafety, chemical safety, and biosecurity
- Guidelines for using the cell culture lab (Pr.113A) and maintaining equipment/tools
- Procedures and precautions for autoclaving both reusable and waste items
- Proper handling and disposal of chemical waste
- Rules and maintenance protocols for equipment/tools in the shared lab (Pr.112) and the pathology lab (Pr.113)
- Proper use and maintenance of equipment/tools in the Digital Pathobiology Laboratory
This initiative reflects the department's ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and well-maintained research environment for all.
